Douglass Municipal Court is held the first Wednesday of each month at 3:30 PM. Court dates may change due to holidays. If you are not sure of your court date, please call 316-747-2109 to verify the date. Some fines are set amounts and can be paid with the court cost any time prior to the scheduled court date. Payments can be made in person or by mail with cash, money order, check or credit/debit card. Payments can be made by phone if paying with a credit/debit card or by visiting: NexBill Pay Court Portal.
Municipal Court is the judicial branch of City Government. Traffic violations and violations of City Ordinances are tried in Municipal Court. The majority of cases in the Municipal Court consist of violations of City traffic ordinances, misdemeanors and violations of City Ordinances. A person is not entitled to a trial by jury in Municipal Court. Trials are conducted under the Code of Criminal Procedure, Code for Municipal Courts and the Kansas Rules of Evidence as adopted by the Kansas Legislature. An appeal from the Municipal Court may be taken to the District Court of Butler County. There is a filing fee that must be paid to the Butler County District Court and if the ruling is overturned, the filing fee is reimbursed. All fines and court costs are made payable to the City of Douglass.
